On the 5th September 2019 at 11:52 UTC a M5.2 earthquake occurred in along the Northern Mid-Atlantic Ridge at a depth of 10 km. The epicentre of the earthquake locates approximately 1500km from Ireland, Iceland and Newfoundland. Earthquakes of this magnitude and greater are common along the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. Most notably, a M7.0 earthquake occurred along this section of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge on the 13th of February 2015.
The earthquake was recorded at seismic stations worldwide, including stations of the Irish National Seismic Network (INSN), see seismic waveforms below (select figure to enlarge).
